New US Passport Fees

Need a new passport? Better get moving soon. New passport fees are scheduled to go into effect sometime next month according to authorities.

The new fees announced by the US Passport office are as listed below:

  • Total Cost: $135 for a first-time U.S. Passport Book for adults (age 16 and over)
  • Total Cost: $110 for U.S. Passport Book renewal (age 16 and over only)
  • Total Cost: $105 for a U.S. Passport Book for minors (under age 16)
  • Total Cost: $55 for a first-time U.S. Passport Card for adults (age 16 and over)
  • Total Cost: $30 for a U.S. Passport Card for adults (age 16 and over) who currently hold a fully valid U.S. Passport
  • Total Cost: $40 for a U.S. Passport Card for minors (under age 16)
  • Total Cost: $82 for additional visa pages
Also changing is the process for a minor under the age of 16 applying for a new passport. Now all parties, both parents and child must appear in person to apply for the new passport. Passports for adults will still be valid for 10 years and children's passports for 5 years. Not only are passports required for all travel outside of the US (unless you are using a passport card for a border crossing only), but more and more, passports are also being used as legal identification when a driver's license is not available.

You can expect a 6 to 8 week wait for your new or renewed passport. If you need to expedite the issuing of a passport, that fee will remain at $60.00 per passport.

To apply for a passport, visit the official US Passport site. You will find the link below. Print out the application and take it to a local post office. Most post offices have scheduled times for passport processing. Contact your local post office for their hours.

Now that you have your passport, where are you going to go with it? Contact me and let's find the perfect vacation together.

Shoe Scanners, Coming To An Airport Near You

One of the most annoying things about going to the airport is going through security. As we wait in line, we are readying ourselves to remove our belts, jackets, the extra change in our pockets and anything else which make that annoying signal sound as we walk through the scanner.

Oh, and seems I forgot, we need to take our shoes off in many airports too! So added to that along with everything else, we are untying, unbuckling, and slipping out of shoes. Even worse is retrieving your shoes and doing that awkward dance of balance while putting your shoes back on. So by the time we undress and dress, the line seems to move ever so slowly.

But now, we may get a reprieve soon. Thanks to Israeli technology developed in 2003 in answer to the growing need for more security in airports, the shoe scanner was unveiled. This piece of equipment can detect metal or explosives which may be hidden in a shoe. This devise will have you simply step on a scanner, it will read your shoes and you keep on going, relieving some of the tie ups in the security line.

So now after a few years of refinement, the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) has announced it plans to buy 100 units by next year. The TSA has not yet announced where these units will be placed however. Hopefully this will get all of us through the lines faster and with an added ounce of security.
