Southwest Airlines, A New Low In Customer Care

Yet another caution about looking for the cheapest services. A few days ago, in a previous blog, I cautioned about choosing the cheapest online travel option when booking a vacation. Now, a new caution, Southwest Airlines.

Southwest Airlines recently made a change to their "contract of carriage." This is the area which acts as the overall disclaimer of the airline to the passenger. The "contract of carriage" is a rarely read area which is posted online for all airlines explaining their contact of services and liabilities to you, their customer. It details their responsibility in the case of delays, lost luggage and flight cancellations.

The popular airlines has now added mechanical failures as "an act of God" as part of their "contract of carriage" to limit their liabilities to you, their client. Customer service
clearly takes a backseat to their revenue. According to reports, this was done a few weeks ago without any media announcement. This basically means they believe "mechanical failures are outside their control."

I do understand that airlines do need to delay flights for various reasons. Many of those reasons are truly beyond the control of the airline. Recently passengers flying in Europe and through Europe experienced wild cancellations and delays because of a sudden spew of volcanic ash from Iceland. In a decision of safety and well being for both passengers and crew, flights had to be grounded. Other acts of mother nature or God have grounded flights when it has been determined safety is an issue. Personally, I'd rather wait on the ground and be delayed than fly in unstable conditions.

Maintenance is a major responsibility solely borne by the airline. Prior to planes directed to the gates, full checks of all systems should be made. Yes, there are times when an alert pilot or flight engineer finds a problem while going through their check points before take -off. For that, we need to be appreciative. Again, our safety should be the main issue.

However, for an airline to call their maintenance issues "an act of God" is a far stretch. This is their responsibility, part of their contract to you, the passenger, their client, to keep you safe. All business owners need to step up to the plate for customer service, including the airlines. If you think this is wrong, let Southwest Airlines know. Go on to their website and comment on their customer service area. Silence by you, the passenger, will let them think you don't care. Sometimes, silence isn't golden.

Are You Really Safe Booking Online Discount Travel?

Today it was announced that another online discount travel company has filed Chapter 11, bankruptcy protection. Was the extra $50.00 to the traveler in savings worth the risk of now losing their vacation? Probably not.
Many of these large online agencies have accrued debt they cannot possibly recover from since the drop in the ecomony in 2009. This company, for example owes about $250,000.00 to creditors it cannot cover. The travelers, if the company does not pay the suppliers, will not be protected and may find themselves out in the cold when arriving to their destination or the airport.

When looking to travel, why risk your investment on a faceless travel booking engine? The value of planning your vacation personally with a travel consultant is worth more than a small discount you may receive as one of 100's booking your reservation. Many times the price of the vacation ultimately paid online is the same or more than the same vacation planned through a travel consultant.

Also, consider the fact you are going only by what you have read online. Did the online description accurately describe the accommodations? Is this the right fit for your needs? Also, did the online booking engine mention you are on three flights to a destination where maybe a nonstop is available for a few dollars more?

Most importantly, will there be someone there to help if you have any issues pretravel or during your travel? The marginal is answer is yes, there will be someone, maybe to answer the phone. Will they do everything possible to assist you? Probably not as you are just one of many and customer satisfaction is not a priority, numbers are.

So next time you have the urge to book it online with a faceless booking engine, think again. If it is 2:00 AM , wait until the morning and call a certified professional travel consultant. Ask questions, get professional advise and make sure this is the right vacation, accommodation and travel decision for you. In the end, even it is does cost a few dollars more, it is worth the investment in your vacation.
When you are ready to plan you vacation, call me. Find out the difference in personal travel planning. You will be happy you did!

Machu Picchu Reopens For Tourism

After many longs months of anticipation, one of the world's most beautiful historical and cultural sights reopens. The Peruvian government was force to close this popular touring area after devastating rains flooded the site in late January.

Thousands of tourists and area residents were left stranded when torrential rains fell in the region. Due to mudslides caused by the floods, roadways and rail service were blocked. The only way out was by helicopter. Unfortunately due to poor visibility and continued bad weather, people remained in the towns and villages below for days.

Machu Picchu sits about 8,200 feet (2,500 meters) above sea level in the Andes Mountain range. This site of the Inca ruins was named by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1983. It is Peru's most popular tourism site and responsible for the largest portion of their tourism income.

On April 1, 2010, the ancient site of Machu Picchu was reopened for tourism. This Inca citadel was built around 1450, but abandoned about 100 years later. The Inca site was refound by Hiram Bingham in 1911. Several theories as to why the Incas built this high outpost surround this ancient gift to us.

To visit Machu Picchu, visitors must go through the quaint town of Cusco. This town was recognized by the early Spanish conquerors in the 17th and 18th centuries. Not only is Cusco the gateway to the Inca Citadel perched in the Andes Mountains, but the town has a culture and life of it's own. Beautiful markets, the town square, Plaza de Armas,
Chapel of Sagrada Familia and more charm the thousands of tourists on their way to the mystical ruins.

Want to know more about travel to Peru? Call me and let me help you plan your own Peruvian discovery. This is the perfect family vacation.

Shoe Scanners, Coming To An Airport Near You

One of the most annoying things about going to the airport is going through security. As we wait in line, we are readying ourselves to remove our belts, jackets, the extra change in our pockets and anything else which make that annoying signal sound as we walk through the scanner.

Oh, and seems I forgot, we need to take our shoes off in many airports too! So added to that along with everything else, we are untying, unbuckling, and slipping out of shoes. Even worse is retrieving your shoes and doing that awkward dance of balance while putting your shoes back on. So by the time we undress and dress, the line seems to move ever so slowly.

But now, we may get a reprieve soon. Thanks to Israeli technology developed in 2003 in answer to the growing need for more security in airports, the shoe scanner was unveiled. This piece of equipment can detect metal or explosives which may be hidden in a shoe. This devise will have you simply step on a scanner, it will read your shoes and you keep on going, relieving some of the tie ups in the security line.

So now after a few years of refinement, the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) has announced it plans to buy 100 units by next year. The TSA has not yet announced where these units will be placed however. Hopefully this will get all of us through the lines faster and with an added ounce of security.

Wellness and Spa Vacations

Over the past several years the popularity of spa and wellness travel has rapidly grown. So many of us say we need a vacation, we need to rest, we need to recharge our batteries. While this is so, very few of us really take a true rest and relaxation vacation.

Yes, we go, sit on the beach or by the pool or even a scenic lake. We bring a book and have a drink. However, have we really recharged our batteries? Have we done anything for our body or soul to reach a true rested, relaxed and healthy state?

I had the wonderful opportunity to interview Charles Wills, the creator of the Wills Wellness System. The Wills Wellness System is a well refined wellness system created during 16 years of study through out the Caribbean which uses holistic methods of healing the body. Along with his studies in the Caribbean, Charles had also studied with leading authorities in neuro-feedback and life extension, meditation and more.

His wellness treatments help heal the body in numerous ways. He frequently treats clients with issues including the inability to sleep well, high stress, and pain management. Charles' healing methods have helped many high level executives, celebrities and athletes fine tune their bodies and mind for better productivity, body and mind balance.

Luckily, Charles and the Wills Wellness System is not just for the executives of large corporations or celebrities. These wellness treatments are now available at Zoetry Agua Resort in Punta Cana. While visiting the beautiful Zoetry Agua, you can take advantage of not just spa treatments, but a true relaxation and healing vacation.

The newest addition to the Wills Wellness System is the Family Wellness Retreat. Families are now welcome to visit Zoetry Agua. Children accompanying the family must be over the age of 12. These wellness vacations will be available limited times through the year.

Other wellness techniques taught by the Wills Wellness System are:

  • Raising your I.Q. and Memory Retention
  • Pain Free Living
  • Weight loss
  • Reconnecting with yourself and your partner
  • Biology of thoughts
  • Numerology Review
  • IBS
  • Anxiety
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Living Younger Longer

Not only are families welcome, but also small groups including girl friend getaways and of course small corporate events. Of course, you don't have to be part of a group to take advantage of the wellness system. Brides and grooms, after the stress of planning the wedding, start your lives together learning to connect with your new life partner and techniques to unstress and relax for a blissful honeymoon and marriage.

Coming soon, 3 day special couples and single treatment packages!

Now is the time to think about your wellness. When considering your vacation, make it a wellness, a Wills Wellness Systems retreat. For more information about your Zoetry Auga Wills Wellness Systems Retreat, call me. I will be able to help you not only make your reservation, but reserve your treatments for your wellness.

When you reserve your resort reservation and treatment, I will have a special offer to you available exclusively through me from Charles Wills. So call me soon, don't delay.

Make your next vacation a true vacation. Return home a new you, healthier and better than ever!
