Puerto Rico, Muy Bonito!

Puerto Rico, Isla del Encanto, is a culturally rich and diverse island located in the center of the Antilles arc.
A territory of the US, travel to Puerto Rico by US citizens does not require a passport. Also both Spanish and English are the official languages of Puerto Rico and the official currency, the US dollar.

So now you know the easy part....the best of Puerto Rico, well...that's the hard part. This rich island has so much to offer for all who visit. Mostly everyone knows about her beautiful beaches, crystal clear waters and vibrant nightlife including casinos. But that's just the beginning. No matter your interests, Puerto Rico has something for every traveler's interest.

Divers, with average visibilities of 60 -75 feet, you can dive 100 feet or more from some beach entries. Some of the most popular dive areas are found near Rincon, Mayaguez, Vieques and Culebra. Beginners and snorkelers will enjoy the reefs and ocean life near Dorado and San Juan. Puerto Rico consistently rates among the top ten dive destinations. Some of their best dive sites are:

Families have many options for enjoying the island. This historically and culturally rich island offers many historical monuments and museums including of course the famous El Morro in Old San Juan. The watchtower of El Morro is the national symbol of Puerto Rico and pictured above. Dozens of museums throughout the country laud the culture of the Tianos, Africans and Spaniards who brought their cultures and lore to build this island. The new Botanical Gardens in Caguas, just a 40 minute ride from San Juan, offers 60,000 acres of gardens, archaeological finds, horseback riding and more. If the heat of the sun is getting to you, try the ice skating rink in Aguadilla. On the way from San Juan to Rincon, don't forget the Mayaguez Zoo!

Have an interest in archeology? You can join on of the foremost experts of Puerto Rican archeology on a dig. If you don't want the hands on experience, look to one of the many archeology museums preserving the rich history.

Golfers will be delighted in the array of golfing opportunities on professionally designed golf courses. Puerto Rico is known as the Golfing Capital of the Caribbean. With 22 golf courses, 17 of which are professionally rated, Puerto Rico was recently named to the PGA Tour schedule. Always perfect weather for a round of golf, every season is the right season to play. Need some refresher courses or you need to learn? The only golf academy in the Caribbean, the David Leadbetter Golf Academy is located in Carolina. From beginners to experts, one to three day clinics, there is something for every golfer.

Excellent cuisine and wine are also abundant in Puerto Rico. The fusions of cooking styles in small regional eateries with owners and chefs just waiting to tantalize your palate. From traditional meals such as sancocho to decadent desserts like guava flan, you will not come home hungry. Also, luxurious five star gourmet restaurants are easily found throughout the island.
