Is The Travel Agent A Qualified Travel Consultant?

Yes, I know I have touched on this topic briefly before. Since this is an important topic for consumers I feel I must discuss it again. I am sure either you or someone you know was told you can become a travel agent for a small fee. Just pay $499.00 plus $50.00 a month and get all the perks you want. You can also make a referral fee too...supposidly $25.00.

So tell me, would you buy insurance from your neighbor or coworker if they weren't licensed? Would you want their advise because they said they joined an insurance club? Same with legal advise...would you trust the barrista at the corner coffee shop? So why would you throw your hard earned dollars away for your vacation to someone who is not qualified to give you educated information and find you the best travel solutions?

The authenitic, professional travel business doesn't really work like that. The problem is, the unsuspecting consumer might not know they are talking about travel planning with someone who is just not qualified to sell travel. A true travel professional has many qualifications. Amongst those qualifications:

• Education about travel including, destinations, resorts and cruiselinesAssociations with nationally recognized organizations such as ASTA, CLIA, and IATAN (all bona fide agencies are registered with ASTA and IATAN)


• Ask which consortium the ageny is associated. Check the BBB for the agency name


• References and demonstrated proficiency in answering your questions


• Before you discuss travel, find out about the travel planner. As how long they have been planning travel? Ask about their agency and how long it has been in existance?

If you hear the words referral agent, run...don't walk. The most well known "referral agencies" are known by the names of "YTB" Your Travel Biz), "World Ventures", "PTS" (Prestige) Travel, "WorldQuest, Inc", "Global Travel" and "Traverus." There are others popping up as we speak. Before you travel, don't trust your hard earned dollars to just anyone. Don't be embarrased to ask questions about the travel planner's credentials. A true professional will welcome your questions. I always invite new clients to check my references as well as those of my agency. I am proud of our standing as a professionals, not someone looking to make a quick buck and move on.

Rounding out this category in the Caribbean the is largest resort collection for adults, Sandals. Sandals was founded by Gordon "Butch" Stewart in 1981 when he purchased an old hotel named Bay Roc which was sorely in need of repair. His vision was to created a new all-inclusive experience for adult couples only with luxury amenities. As a Sandals Certified Specialist for many years, I am pleased to share the resorts with you.

Twenty-eight years later, and 12 Sandals Resorts located in the finest Caribbean locations, Mr. Stewart had the right idea! In Jamaica alone, Sandals owns 7 resorts, ranging from the intimate Sandals Inn in Montego Bay to the opulent Dunn's River in Ocho Rios.

In the Montego Bay, are Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Royal Caribbean located near Sandals Inn. Because of their proximity to each other guests have the ability to take advantage of resort amenities at all three with the Stay At One, Play At All Policy. A shuttle bus regularly circuits the resorts providing access for guests.

Ocho Rios boasts two resorts in which to play. The opulent Sandals Dunn's River and it's sister resort, Sandals Grande Ocho Rios. Sandals Dunn's River was recently renovated to recreate the luxury feel of the Italian Renaissance. At Sandals Dunn's River you can pamper yourself with the taste of Europe on sandy Caribbean beaches. Next door, Sandals Grande Ocho Rios, and expansive property offers both beachfront and lush private accommodations. Oceanfront rooms can be enjoyed in the Manor House, directly on the beach. The Ciboney Villa Suites offer private stand alone villas with plunge pools, concierge and butler service nestled amid lush tropical gardens.

Traveling down the coast of Jamaica, you will find Sandals Negril which sits on the longest stretch of the famous seven mile beach. Since Sandals Negril is located on the western tip of Jamaica, be prepared for the most beautiful sunsets in the Jamaica. Like the trio in Montego Bay, you can stay at one and play at all, giving you the best your vacation can offer. At Sandals Halcyon Beach explore the tropical gardens, have a drink at pool or relax on the beach. At night, seek refuge at the piano bar.

Sandals Grande St. Lucian offers scenic views of the Pitons as you relax poolside or on the beach. Like Sandals Antigua, for the ultimate luxury, stay in a beachfront Rondoval. Also, let's not forget the fun of a Swim Up Room. Step off of your private patio into the one of the free form pools.
